Our middle school swim season is about to begin! If your child is interested in joining the WCDS swim team, please let us know. We encourage them to participate in this fun and competitive opportunity. Our swim team is coached again this season by Jade, a current senior swimmer at Wheeling University. This year, we will practice at Wheeling University’s pool on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 pm to 5 pm and our first practice is Tuesday, March 11. You will get the full-season schedule at the first practice!
Thank you to the WCDS Middle School for hosting us on Friday. Our fifth graders had a wonderful time ice skating and enjoying the rink with the middle school students. If you have not yet scheduled a visit to our middle school, please email cochap@wcdsedu.com to set up a shadow day!
Weekly Recap:
Language Arts:
- Working on our When I Grow Up essay contest
- Continuing on with One Crazy Summer and our learning of the Civil Rights Movement
- Took a spelling test on em- and en- prefixes
Math:
- Learned how to add and subtract decimals with unlike denominators
- Continuing to practice finding the least common multiple between two numbers
Lego Robotics:
Students are putting the finishing touches on their programming. They are using specials classes, before care, and recess to get extra practice time on the table and are preparing diligently for the March 13th competition.
Leadership:
Students took a big step in preparing for their upcoming mock interviews by creating their own resumes and emailing past teachers asking them to be personal references. They carefully outlined their skills, experiences, and leadership qualities, focusing on what makes them strong candidates.
