Spring Break-March 3rd-7th: We hope everyone has a relaxing and rejuvenating break! We return to school Monday, March 10th with a 10:00 start, aftercare begins at 7:30 and drop off begins at 9:30.

Hello JK families,

Now that we celebrated all things love to the max, it was time to turn our attention back to bringing our bakery to life. Our four groups: menu team, payment team, supplies team, and decor team were given the opportunity to present their decisions to the class. Using a storyboard filled with pictures of their ideas each group came to the front of the class and shared their plans. It was so sweet to see the pride they felt as their designs were shared with their peers. It was also a helpful refresher since many of the children forgot what they discussed. You could see their excitement as they remembered what they had said. The payment group had wanted to create a “money cup” to hold the money from their paying customers but they wanted it to look like an animal. They couldn’t quite agree on the animal, so we decided to let the class take a vote. The choices were, giraffe, pig, hedgehog, or turtle. At the end of their storyboard presentation we let the class draw a picture of the animal of their choice and place their vote in the “money cup.” When the votes were tallied, the hedgehog was the big winner! After their presentations, it was time to get to work on the many things needed to open this bakery (that still remains nameless). The payment group began transforming their money cup into a hedgehog by applying a variety of brown paint colors. The decor group began making table number (that look metallic) artwork for the walls, and of course an “open & closed” sign. The supply group worked on tissue paper flowers for the outdoor balcony space and last, but for hungry tummies the most important, the menu group worked on all things food! Fine tuning the details as well as working on the bakery logo continues next week. In addition to creating all aspects of our very own class business, the children made their own name tags and clay desserts. We definitely kept busy through the cold!

In math we worked on the number 9 and in literacy we practiced the letter Ii and it’s short sound. The class was also thrilled to welcome several specials guests from the 4th grade class. Bolt, Sunshine, and Oreo, the freshly hatched chicks from the 4th grade incubation project, were welcomed with gentle touches and lots of curiosity. The kiddos got to pet the chicks using just two fingers and then created their own chick using play-doh, feathers and beads!

We wish those of you who are under the weather a quick recovery and thank our healthy families for supporting us during this spike in illness. We love your children and appreciate your continued trust in us. Healthy, sun-filled days are ahead and we can’t wait to share them with you.

With love,
