Spring Break-March 3rd-7th: We hope everyone has a relaxing break! We return to school Monday, March 10th with a 10:00 start, before care begins at 7:30 am and drop off begins at 9:20 am.
Dear JK Families,
We were so happy to have the class back together this week, healthier and excited to see each other! With the little break in the weather, it was so nice getting outside for some fresh air and playground time. Our four bakery groups were in full swing this week, creating different parts that are going to make our space extra special. The decor group created some lovely artwork for the walls, including colorful picture frames. The supplies group painted beautiful table cloths and more homemade flowers to give our bakery that homey-feel. Our hedgehog money cup is super unique, especially with the accurately cut triangle spikes, legs, and face. Lastly, the menu group designed and created one-of-a-kind menu covers using watercolor paints and markers. While we have been preparing baked goods using playdough and clay, we thought it was time to actually bake something that we could enjoy together. As the teachers sported some fashionable aprons, the kiddos were taking great guesses as to what we might be making. “Cake!” “Playdough!” “Brownies!” “Cookies!” Yes, we made cookies, but not before having a conversation about what the purpose of an apron is. Here are a few things that they had to say:
“It helps you keep clean.”
“Some artists wear aprons.”
“I have an apron at home that I use.”
The students were happy to see a few aprons for use in our bakeshop and it might even spark yet another exploration for us. After our discussion, we put our cooking skills to the test! One group made sugar cookie dough and the other made chocolate chip cookie dough, paying careful attention to the recipe and stirring/mixing the ingredients together. We then combined the two different kinds of cookie dough together to make our own bear cookies. The students were so excited to see them and give them a try!
In Literacy, Miss Trista introduced us to the letter Nn! The students helped her find lots of words that begin with that sound, including nose, Noah, news, nutcracker, none, and nail. They also showed her how hard they have been working on their phonological awareness and letter-sound correspondence. They then tested their memories with Miss Heather and practiced finding the picture cards that started with the /n/ sound and writing the letter using a paint bag.
We hope you all have an amazing break, filled with lots of fun and new memories. Stay healthy and we will see you soon!
