Happy Spring! Spring has officially sprung in our classroom, and with it comes a fresh burst of energy, curiosity, and growth! Just like the flowers blooming outside, our second graders are blossoming into confident learners.

This week, we learned that when you wanted to add a suffix to a word that ended in a y, you had to change the y to i, like in the word happier! We worked to spell and read words that follow this spelling rule. The kiddos have also started to wrap up their persuasive writings, so next week we will begin with How-To’s!

In math, the students have jumped right into collecting data by learning how to make their own tally charts and bar graphs. The students really enjoyed collecting their own data by polling their classmates on some of their favorite things.

Our little chefs had a blast in this week’s Kids in the Kitchen! Students worked together to mash bananas, mix ingredients, and measure with care as they baked delicious banana bread from scratch. It was a hands-on way to practice math, follow directions, and enjoy the rewards of teamwork (and tasty treats!). The room smelled amazing, and the smiles were even sweeter than the bread!

In Deep Dive this week, the kiddos were learning all about seeds! We went on an adventure to discover different types of seeds, and we even discussed what types of soil are best for plant growth by conducting an experiment. Ask your student whether sand, dirt, or clay based soils are best!

Have a great weekend!
