On April 17th, the fifth-grade class will be hosting a Spring Egg Hunt for our PS-4th-grade students on the main campus. We have lots of plastic eggs from previous years but we need your help in gathering items to fill the eggs. If you are able to donate a dozen small toys, trinkets, stickers, or candy for the school, we would love to have them by Monday. April 14. Thank you in advance for your help in making this a special event for our students!
Hello 2nd Grade Families,
What a damp but fun and learning-packed week we’ve had in second grade! Your children have been busy exploring new topics and practicing important skills across all subjects. Here’s a peek at what we’ve been up to:
This week, we learned about the “au” spelling pattern that makes the short o sound, like in the words auto and sauce. We practiced reading and writing words with “au” in the beginning and middle of words. We started how-to writing! The students are learning how to clearly explain the steps for doing something they know well using transition words. Ask your child what they’re writing about! We’ve also been working hard to write complete sentences that start with capital letters, end with punctuation, and include both the “who” and the “do”.
In math, we explored 3D shapes like cubes, cones, spheres, and pyramids. We learned to identify their faces, vertices, and edges using hands-on activities. The students loved building shapes and counting their parts.
We had a special visit from a WVU Extension, Miss Becca, who helped us start planting seeds for our class garden. The students were so excited to learn about what plants need to grow. She’ll be back next week to teach us all about pollinators and how they help our plants thrive.
Each student has chosen a *Magic Treehouse* chapter book to read for their next book report. They’re off to great starts and are enjoying the adventures of Jack and Annie. Be sure to check in with your child about what’s happening in their story.
Thanks for all you do to support your child’s learning. We’re looking forward to another great week ahead.
