English w/ Mrs. McFadden –
- Upcoming Tests/Quizzes- none scheduled
- We finished Miracles on Maple Hill this week. It was a sweet story about the healing powers of nature that closely follows a family as they learn how to make maple syrup. We hope to have a follow-up activity with Mrs. Farris!
- The children are enjoying reading and writing poetry. Students selected a book in verse to read independently.
- The children’s librarian from the OCPL visited again this week. This time, in addition to a read-aloud, we were treated to him singing “The Wizard and I”. It was quite a performance!
Math w/ Mrs. McFadden –
- Upcoming Tests/Quizzes- none scheduled
- We spent Thursday in centers practicing converting fractions to decimals (and vice versa) and putting fractions in simplest forms. We had fun using the game spoons to review these skills, and the extra day of practice paid off. They rocked the Chapter 7 progress check!
Deep Dive w/ Mr. Rouse and Mr. Jividen
- We flew the drone for the first time this week
- Our script is coming together, storyboards are done, and we are eagerly scheduling our drone shots around town
Science w/ Mrs. Farris –
- Upcoming Tests/Quizzes – No test or quiz scheduled
- We reviewed key phenology concepts with a Gimkit and discussed at-home study strategies. Students set up a “flip and check” journal page for four main definitions and comparisons.
- They were introduced to our upcoming phenology research project and excited to claim their plant or animal to study!
- Please send in a pair of old pants and high socks (if available) to keep at school for an upcoming insect exploration day—weather dependent.
Music w/Mrs. Chelsey –
- This week, students broke into groups and began working on their Radio Drama skits. They are writing a five-minute skit including a narrator, characters, and sound effects. Each group will then present their Radio Drama to the class, but no one will be looking at it, so we can just use our imaginations to create pictures of what’s going on based on the sounds used.
- We did several music and rhythm warm-ups this week—zip zap zap and machine! Ask your kids what these are!!
- We began the first rhythm of our field day drumming song, “Everybody Dance Now”!
- Our journal prompt this week was “What is a song that reminds you of someone you love?”
Elective w/ Mr. Hill –
WPHS Speech and Debate students, including WCDS Alumni Carter Bauer, came to help our Speech and Debate kids work on their pieces.
