Raindrops, Bonnets & Bunny Hops: A Colorful Week in Preschool!

Upcoming Dates and Announcements:

A Look at Our Week:

Inspired by Couple Under One Umbrella by the colorful artist Leonid Afremov—and a perfectly timed rainy Tuesday!—we explored the beauty of rain and self-expression through our April self-portraits. After a fun “trip” to our classroom museum to admire the painting, the children got to work on their own self-portraits in the rain. First, they used black Sharpie Flair pens to draw themselves walking in the rain, just like the couple in Afremov’s painting. Then came the most exciting part—adding bright pops of color by gluing vibrant tissue paper squares to create a dazzling, rainy background. It was wonderful to see how each child brought their own personality into their artwork! To bring the whole project to life, we snapped photos of each kiddo outside, smiling under a big umbrella—true little rays of sunshine in the drizzle! We added their pictures and drawings to their colorful creations, and the final pieces turned out absolutely adorable. You can now see these masterpieces proudly displayed in our classroom.

Following our rainy-day art adventure, we turned our attention to a beloved spring tradition—Easter bonnets! After reading Easter Parade by Irving Berlin, the children were full of excitement and creativity. Inspired by the festive spirit of the story, they each designed their very own Easter bonnets using paper plates as the base. With a colorful selection of loose parts like soft tulle, fluffy pom poms, colorful foam flowers, ribbon, tissue squares, and sparkly beads, each child crafted a unique and joyful creation. The process was filled with laughter, imagination, and a wonderful display of fine motor skills as they carefully arranged and glued their chosen materials. The finished bonnets were as bright and cheerful as the kids themselves—perfectly capturing the whimsy of springtime!

With their handmade Easter bonnets perched proudly on their heads, the kiddos were beyond excited to parade down to the playground for a special egg hunt organized just for them by our amazing 5th-grade students on Thursday. It was such a joyful sight—our little ones marching in their festive hats, giggling and waving as they made their way outside. Once the hunt began, they eagerly dashed around, scooping up colorful eggs tucked into every nook and cranny. The squeals of delight as they opened their treasures were absolutely priceless! Back in the classroom, the fun continued with a creative activity led by our wonderful student teacher, Miss Payton. Using squishy eggs, paint, and lots of fun stickers, the children decorated their very own Easter eggs. It was a fantastic way to wind down after all the excitement. The smiles on their faces said it all—what a magical day!

Thank you, as always, for sharing your amazing children with us. Wishing you a beautiful, bright, and joyful spring season!
