English w/ Mrs. McFadden –

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes- Daily Dose Quiz Thursday
  • This week, we analyzed and wrote poetry and continued reading our books in verse. These books pack a ton of content in a concise, easy-to-read format. They don’t necessarily follow a rhyme scheme, but use figurative language and imagery to paint a vivid picture. This hybrid format of prose and poetry often explores themes like identity, grief, and social issues. It’s also very rewarding to finish a book in one day!

Math w/ Mrs. McFadden and Mrs. Rutherford-

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes- Adding and subtracting equations with fractions quiz Wednesday.
  • Students used their knowledge of LCM and GCF to find like denominators to add and subtract equations with fractions. There are many steps to remember, and students have to synthesize many skills that we have previously learned. This allows us to pin down where the mistake was made and how to provide specific support for how to improve. It also gives students the chance to earn partial credit!
  • Students also used these skills to complete a math mystery scavenger hunt. It was a challenge, but they solved the mystery!

Deep Dive w/ Mr. Rouse and Mr. Jividen

  • We flew the drone for the first time this week
  • Our script is coming together, storyboards are done, and we are eagerly scheduling our drone shots around town

Science w/ Mrs. Farris –

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes – No test or quiz scheduled
  • We reviewed key phenology concepts with a Gimkit and discussed at-home study strategies. Students set up a “flip and check” journal page for four main definitions and comparisons.
  • They were introduced to our upcoming phenology research project and excited to claim their plant or animal to study!
  • Please send in a pair of old pants and high socks (if available) to keep at school for an upcoming insect exploration day—weather dependent.

Music w/Mrs. Chelsey –

Our journal prompt this week was “What is a song that reminds you of someone you love?”

This week, students broke into groups and began working on their Radio Drama skits. They are writing a five-minute skit that includes a narrator, characters, and sound effects. Each group will then present their Radio Drama to the class, but no one will be looking at it, so we can just use our imaginations to create pictures of what’s going on based on the sounds that are used.

We did several music and rhythm warm-ups this week—zip zap zap and machine! Ask your kids what these are!!

We began the first rhythm of our field day drumming song, “Everybody Dance Now”!
