It was a short week, but packed with activities! We worked with Attack Theatre through Zoom on Monday and Wednesday. The students are becoming more comfortable with expressing themselves through movement. In class, we continued with our Holes novel study. And math took on a “Hole” different view, as we moved into studying circles and geometry. To top it off, our short week ended with a delicious pancake breakfast, which is a time honored tradition in 4th grade that celebrates and reminds us about gratefulness. Our grateful breakfast was followed by an egg hunt hosted by 5th grade.
We are GRATEFUL for all of you. We hope you enjoy some family time and get a chance to relax this long weekend. We’ll see everyone on Tuesday at 10:00 am!
Stella and Grace
Attack Theatre
The students have been discussing facing and overcoming adversity. Through movement, they have expressed different emotions to showcase how they would feel in those moments. We encourage you to share your own experiences with adversity and overcoming it with your students as it will help guide them in this process. The goal of this it to show them that great things do not happen overnight. We want to expose them to the challenges and hardwork it takes to achieve their dreams so when they are faced with them, they do not become discouraged.
4th Grade CELEBRATE Pottery
We are still accepting donations towards your child’s pottery piece. We think this is a great way to raise money for WCDS Celebrate in a collaborative effort – and everyone wins their child’s piece! We are asking for a minimum donation of $50 – a special thank you to those who donated above and beyond! Please email Mimi Parsons to make arrangements for payment – mparsons@wcdsedu.com
In ELA:
- Students are reviewing and learning new literary terms. They have a bookmark that gives them a brief defintion of each term while they read to aide them in discussions.
- Students are continuing their practice of grammar and spelling skills with their daily ELA spiral and continuation of homophones.
- Attack Theatre has given the students the challenge of finding two people (one from history and one they know personally) who have faced adversity and overcome it to acheive their dreams. Students are working on turning these into poems.
In Math:
- We continued practicing long division with our movie theater division project. The students are doing division calculations in order to outfit their own movie theater.
- To tag onto our Holes novel study, the students were introduced to geometry and started learning about circles. They can identify the center point, diameter, radius, and circumference of a circle. We also worked on a circle art project.
Important Reminders:
- The weather is cold, then warm, then cold, then warm again – welcome to spring! Please make sure your child’s coats, raincoats, sweatshirts, etc. are labled with their name. As the kids shed their layers, we find clothing everywhere! Labled items is a HUGE help! Thank you!
Ready, set, go! Off to find some eggs!
