Despite a rainy Friday, all of the WCDS students enjoyed an afternoon filled with world culture. Madame McAteer planned and invited very engaging and informative presenters from different countries around the world. They shared glimpses of their everyday lives in their countries, and the students even had a chance to taste different types of food. This is an experience that opens our students’ mind to new and exciting places.

On Thursday, we welcomed our friends (and 4th grade parents) from Wes Banco. Mike Mistovitch and Ashlee Burkey came to 4th grade to talk finances with the students. “What’s a want and need”, they asked. While some students would say their Playstation 5 was definitely a need, they all came to agreement that it should be placed in the “want” category. We thank Mike and Ashlee for sharing their very useful financial advice.

With warmer weather upon us (hopefully to stay), everyone has spring fever! We still have so much learning to do before the school year ends. We’ll continue to keep the kids engaged and enthusiastic about learning!

Have a fantastic weekend!

Stella and Grace

In ELA:

  • Students continued their novel study of Holes. They will begin to review their vocabulary and take quizzes on them. We will give them different study tools to use to see what works best for them individually!
  • The students also completed an International Day mini research project where they became experts of one destination they traveled to in the afternoon. They then shared their findings with the class.

In Math:

  • The students applied their knowledge about circles and identified the center, radius, and diameter. We will continue with our geometry unit next week and learn about angles.
  • The students will be learning about fractions, equivalent fractions and how to add, subtract, and multiply them.

In Castle Rock by Lyric:

  • The students continued to solve multiple crises with close to eight being left.
  • The stock market stayed the same as the countries and tribes elected to do double or nothing.

In STEAM by Lyric and Vinny:

  • Students learned how to make electricity wihtout burning coal to help the environment.
  • They are currently researching other methods as well and who is currently using them.

Important Reminders:

  • We have a field trip to the Stifel Fine Arts Center on Tuesday, April 29. This is an opportunity for the students to observe and learn more about pottery making. They may even get a chance for some hands on experience. The first van shuttle will leave at 9:30 am. We will return to school before lunch.
  • Please mark your calendars for our Attack Theatre final performance on Thursday, May 15, at 1:30 pm in the gym. The students will perform and also share poems and artwork done in combination with our Attack Theatre friends. We hope you can make it!
  • The weather is cold, then warm, then cold, then warm again – welcome to spring! Please make sure your child’s coats, raincoats, sweatshirts, etc. are labled with their name. As the kids shed their layers, we find clothing everywhere! Labled items is a HUGE help! Thank you!
