Dear Families,
It’s been another fantastic week in 2nd grade, full of learning, creativity, and excitement!
This week, we explored the sounds of “ew” and discovered that it can say both /oo/ (as in *chew*) and /yu/ (as in *few*). Ask your child if they can find “ew” words in books or signs around the house!
We’ve been keeping our math skills sharp with regular practice and review. This week, we also began learning about arrays — a big step as they start gearing up for multiplication! Arrays help us understand repeated addition in a new way, and the class is already catching on quickly.
Our how-to writing pieces are almost finished! The students are doing amazing jobs guiding readers through various tasks, from baking cookies to riding a bike. These wonderful writings will be coming home soon.
Our Magic Tree House book reports are complete, and they turned out great! Now, each student has picked a book from the Who Was? series for their final reading project. This series is a class favorite, and we’re excited to dive into the lives of some fascinating people from history.
Miss Becca from WVU extension paid us one last visit, showing us how to make our own classroom compost bin. She taught us what needs to go inside, how to take care of it, and what a real-life composter is. We went worm hunting to add real worms to our classroom compost bin! After we watch the process a bit in the classroom, we will add it to our garden compost.
Thank you for helping this rat pack send off our one and only Miss Bekah with a starter library and lots of love this week. She’s now busy studying for her final evaluations, but we hope she can stop back and visit us before the end of the school year!
Garden Helpers Needed!
If you didn’t catch our recent text, we’re inviting families to help their child take care of a garden bed as part of a special class project. This is a great hands-on way to connect with nature and responsibility.
