Hello Preschool Familes!

What a week our little museum curators and artists have had! They say that when art and humor collide, masterpieces become giggles! If the amount of giggles we had this week are any indication of the masterpieces they have created, then we have a classroom full of Picasso’s!

On Tuesday we read the story “Mayhem at the Museum a Book in Pictures” by Luciano Lozano. In this story a little girl visits the Metropolitan Museum of Art with her classmates, and just like any museum, you may look but NOT touch. what begins as any typical visit to a museum, quickly becomes anything but. The art comes to life and begins to touch the art museum visitors in hilarious and surprising ways! The students loved exploring every turn of the page as they made inferences on”what happens next” by looking at the pictures. We then set out to create our next museum exhibit- superheros! Much like the story, their images came to life, as they created their very own super hero figurines and their personas! They did not disappoint! Next we brought our friend Lincoln’s monster truck museum exhibit to life! They learned about graffiti art (We promise, they will not be tagging any local buildings anytime soon! ) Armed with spray paint and tires they squealed with delight as they watched the colors spray from the cans!

On Wednesday, in preparation for our animal museum exhibit we read the story Gorilla Painting. The children have become experts on identifying what the author and illustrator do so we thought it was a great time to introduce the elements of a story. We talked about what a main character is and what the setting of a story is. Your children have been working so hard all year long on reading comprehension and we are blown away by their growth! We began working on their animals they would like to have shown in the museum and we will study our artist next week to wrap up these creations.

On Thursday the children were introduced to Vincent Van Gogh and his famous piece “Starry Night” It was only fitting that their science and planet museum be inspired by such a beautiful masterpiece. The children put their own spin and interpretation to this piece creating 3-D planets, moons, space people and galatic nerf guns!

While our days have been filled with mayhem as we gear up for the finality of the school year, the laughter, collaborative moments, and extra hugs are creating a beatiful tapestry of memories that will forever be in our hearts!

Have a masterpiece of a weekend with those little artists!
