📚 Phonics, Reading, and Writing
We discovered that un- means “not,” and we practiced by adding this prefix to well-known words—like turning clear into unclear and kind into unkind. It’s unbelievable how two letters can produce the opposite when added to words! We practiced oral reading fluency and comprehension by pulling in our deep dive topic: Geology. Students also continued to fine-tune their opinion pieces, and even started writing another!
🔢 Math
Measurement took on a different direction as we discussed money and elapsed time. Students practiced adding and subtracting amounts of money and then creating pictures to show the values. Elapsed time brought with it a new vocabulary term: increments. Kiddos mapped out elapsed time, in increments, on a timeline.
🪨 Science
We continued rocking and rolling with Geology! Students learned how landforms are affected by weathering, erosion, and deposition. Volcanoes are up next, as we will begin creating our models next week. Don’t forget supplies so kiddos can began crafting next week!
And… keep an eye out for a special Mother’s Day surprise! The kids were so excited to create something just for you/special someone. You are so loved!
