Welcome Back, Second Grade Families!☀️
What a wonderful first week we’ve had together! Even though we only had three half days, they were filled with learning, laughter, and lots of fun. The students enjoyed having all of their specials and meeting their teachers in art, PE, drama, music, AND Spanish. We were even able to squeeze in some playground time!
One of our favorite activities was creating an “All About Me” project. Using magazines, students found pictures that represent who they are, then wrote three sentences to describe themselves. We’ve begun hanging them up and they are already making our classroom feel like a cozy, homey space where everyone belongs. Speaking of belonging, we also read All Are Welcome by Alexandra Penfold. The students loved comparing the similarities and differences between our school and the one in the story, and they embraced the message that everyone is welcome here in our classroom family.
We also worked together to set up our class expectations. Around campus, you’ll see expectation signs with WCDS- (We are Responsible, Caring, Determined, and Safe) and our second graders have already brainstormed what that looks like in our classroom community. We worked together to fill out our classroom expectations and we were nothing short of proud with what they came up with collectively.
We are so excited for this new school year with both new and familiar faces. Thank you for sharing your amazing children with us—we can’t wait to see all that this year will bring!💙💛
