The first day of school always comes with a mix of excitement and a few butterflies in the stomach. Walking into a new classroom and entering a brand new grade can feel a little bit overwhelming at first. But in our classroom, those first-day jitters didn’t last long! We wrapped up our first full week of third grade, and what an exciting week it has been! The classroom is already buzzing with curiosity, teamwork, and lots of learning.
In math, we jump-started our learning with Prodigy, which has created a fun and engaging way to practice our skills while giving us a chance to see where everyone is. The kids have been loving the game-like practice, and it’s a great tool to support our math growth.
In reading, we began Third Grade Angels. The students are loving the story and the conversations it sparks about kindness, responsibility, and what it means to be a role model.
In writing, we are working on our first big project: personal narratives. Students are learning how to take their own experiences and turn them into “seed stories” with a beginning, middle, and end. We can already see so many budding authors in our class!
Our deep dive into zoology has been a highlight of the week. We started exploring the fascinating world of animals, asking questions, and beginning to think like scientists. The students are so curious and eager to learn more about the creatures that we share our planet with.
Our third graders got to take a field trip over to the first grade classroom and were able to show off their reading skills with their first grade friends! They loved being able to partner read with friends in a different grade!
It’s only the first full week, but the energy in our classroom is telling us that it’s going to be a year full of growth, creativity, and excitement. We can’t wait to see where our third grade learning journey takes us next!
A few reminders for the school year, please make sure to send two healthy snacks with your student each day and to copy both of us on Talking Points!
We hope you enjoy your three day weekend and we will see you on Tuesday!
