Dear Junior Kindergarten Families,

What a joyful first week of Junior Kindergarten it has been! Each day, the classroom feels a little more like home as the children grow comfortable in their routines, begin forming new friendships, and settle into their very own “second home.” Their smiles grow bigger and their confidence shines brighter with each passing day.

One of our favorite adventures this week was our very first visit to the school library, where the children met a new special teacher, Miss Brie. They were thrilled to explore the shelves and select a book to take home and share with their families. This will become a special weekly tradition—returning their book on Monday and choosing a new treasure to enjoy together.

We also added some personal touches to our classroom to celebrate each child in a unique way. Using balloons, tissue paper, small baskets, paint, and glue, the children created their very own birthday hot air balloons—a fun way to mark their special day throughout the year.

We read the story Good Night School by Catherine Bailey. The children were filled with curiosity as they discovered what happens inside a school at night. Inspired by the story, they worked together to design and build their own schools using blocks of all shapes and sizes, with shaving cream as the mortar to hold everything in place.

As we’ve gotten to know each other, we’ve also taken time to get to know ourselves. The children looked closely in the mirror to study their own unique facial features. Then, they put their problem-solving skills to the test by unscrambling a photo of their face and carefully piecing it back together. What a fun way to celebrate the things that make each of us one-of-a-kind!

It wouldn’t be the start of a new school year without a beginning of the year self-portrait. The children drew an image of themselves in paint on the back of a tray and created a monoprint by applying paper on top and pushing down. The results were gorgeous!!

Have a wonderful weekend
