English w/ Mrs. McFadden –

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes- None scheduled
  • This week, we practiced using context clues to help us identify unknown words. We played the “Unfair Game” to practice, but the unfairness of it all got some of us a little heated!
  • We did a few writing activities, including a mystery writing where they tried to vividly describe an object without giving it away so that the other students could try to guess the mystery object. It was great to see so many kids willing to share! They also enjoyed coming up with a creative answer to a mysterious circumstance. We broke into groups and everyone voted for the most out-of-the-box explanation.
  • We dove into some of our weekly assignments, such as the Daily Dose and the paragraph of the week. They will always have time to work on these during class. When we finish all 10 DD words, they will have a vocab quiz on them. This should be early next week.

SEL w/ Mrs. Ochap – Mindfulness

Students this week start to learn about mindfulness. At its core, mindfulness means paying attention and is very connected to social and emotional learning and academic success. It is a non-religious practice that supports students in noticing what is happening inside and outside themselves in the moment. It’s been shown to improve academic outcomes and help with many social-emotional issues. Over the course of the school year, students will learn mindfulness tools to help with their feelings and emotions, make responsible decisions, and improve their overall self-management.
