Dear Families,

We’ve wrapped up our very first full week of 2nd grade—and what a busy and exciting week it has been!  In phonics, we focused on the spelling patterns -ck and -tch. We practiced reading and writing words with these endings and even took our first concept review to show what we’ve learned.

In math, we learned a few new games that help reinforce skills during morning time. We also started stretching our math brains into addition strategies, exploring some quick tricks for finding sums more efficiently.

We brainstormed about something we did over the summer and began drafting our first rough copies during writing time. It’s always fun to see the stories and memories each child chooses to share!

For grammar, we went on a “Noun Walk” around campus, looking for all kinds of people, places, and things. The kids were amazed by how many examples we could find right under our noses!

During deep dive, we took an interest inventory to discover what sparks our curiosity. With those interests in mind, we started thinking about fun science experiments we might try this year. Curiosity is the best fuel for learning!

It’s been a wonderful week of getting into our routines, working hard, and having fun together. We’re so proud of how everyone is adjusting to full days of learning.

Wishing you a restful weekend!
