Dear Families,
What a fantastic week we’ve had in second grade! Here’s a peek at all we accomplished:
We introduced our new phonics sound, -dge. Ask your child to share a few words that use this tricky ending! Then some of our students finished and published their very first pieces of writing this week! They followed the entire writing process from brainstorming to final draft, and their work is now proudly hanging up for all to see. We also took another step in our grammar journey, diving deeper into nouns and how they make our sentences stronger.
This week’s Kids in the Kitchen recipe was guacamole! The students had so much fun measuring, mixing, and tasting their creations. Be sure to try the recipe at home using the recipe card they brought home.
Our Deep Dive into the animal kingdom is off to a roaring start! So far, we’ve learned how to classify mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. We’re excited to explore even more animal groups in the coming weeks.
In math, we’ve explored addition strategies and built strong number sense, and next week we’ll switch gears to subtraction. We’ll focus on how addition and subtraction are connected before moving on to larger numbers.
