It was a pleasure seeing and talking with many of you at Parent Night. We hope you enjoyed your glimpse into 4th grade. The kids enjoyed receiving the little notes you left on their desks! They were pleasantly surprised. We are looking forward to talking with you during our Parent-Teacher Partnership meetings. Please click on the link to access the sign-up sheet.

ELA:
- 4th Graders completed their first piece of writing! They wrote a literature-based piece discussing the character traits of Suds or Joey. Hopefully you were able to check their hardwork out at Parent Night! If not, they will be sent home when their next piece is ready to display.
- Students have continued to develop their note-taking skills using their ELA Notebooks. Nouns have been the main focus as we explore the several types and variations.
Math:
- We continue to work with place-value into the millions. The students are beginning to understand the patterns of numbers and are excited to work with big numbers.
- This week, the students had to read a number in standard form (digits) and write it in word form (words – how you say it and write it in words). They asked why they need to know how to do this, which brought up the old-fashioned way of paying for things – checks! Many of the kids are very intrigued by how writing a check works. We’ll dive into that during our financial literacy unit.
- Our math interventionist, Mrs. Jordan Bishop, has been working with small groups on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This is a great way for us to isolate and address specific skills any student may need.
Early American History:
- Students are intrigued by the lost colony of Roanoke. They started off with a brief summary of what happened and gave their best guesses as to what might have happened.
- Now, they are learning how to research to try and find an answer to this long debated mystery. So far, we have answers such as, “Their ships sank,” “They left for a new island,” and even, “The lochness monster ate the entire colony.”
Computer Science:
- As we mentioned during Parent Night, please sit down with your child and their computer and have them log into their school email. They can also show you what Google Classroom looks like. As they move on through the year, they will access assignments through Google Classroom.
- We have started them on keyboarding skills. Currently, they are using a free website that has child-friendly typing games (typingbird.com). We’ll teach them more about how to find letters on the keys and how to type more efficiently.
Reminders:
- A signed permission form is needed for your child to ride in the school van for field trips. If you didn’t sign one during Parent Night, we are sending one home in your child’s yellow folder. Please send it back to us, via their yellow folder, next week.
