Mid-September Already?

  • Student Volunteer Opportunity: Foxfire Film Festival
    The inaugural Foxfire Film Festival will take place in Wheeling from September 11–14, 2025, and organizers are inviting high school students to sign up as volunteers. This is a unique chance for students to gain hands-on experience at a major cultural event, connect with filmmakers and industry professionals, and contribute to the community.
  • Volunteer roles may include guest check-in, ushering, assisting with panels and workshops, and general event support. Hard to believe we are over halfway through September! Students kept busy this week with Aimsweb, cross country (boys placed 2nd in a meet), and volleyball. Please see details about picture day, and if you would like to know how your student did in Aimsweb, please email me.

English w/ Mr. Rouse – 

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes- Vocab Test – Friday.
  • We continued our reading and discussion of The Giver.
  • We assigned vocabulary unit #2.
  • We completed Aimsweb testing, please email me if you would like to know how your child did.

Math w/ Mrs. Bishop

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes- Test Wednesday on multiplying & dividing integers.
  • This week students learned the rules for multiplying and dividing integers. 
  • On Thursday, the class took the Aimsweb test.
  • We will be wrapping up our work with integer rules next week.

Math w/ Mrs. Boldrick

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes- None
  • The students took their first math quiz on rational numbers, sections 1-1 to 1-5. It was open note/open resources.
  • They made test corrections on Friday, and will receive a revised score on Monday.
  • Next week, we will review how to add and subtract rational numbers, which include integers and positive and negative fractions, and decimals.
  • The students completed their math AimsWeb testing on Thursday.

Science w/ Mrs. McKay – 

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes -Science News quiz next Thursday
  • This week students completed a virtual lab on photosynthesis and participated in an outdoor scavenger hunt for biotic and abiotic components in an ecosystem

Music w/Mrs. Chelsey – 

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes – Next friday we will have a quiz on notation. We will review on wednesday, but students already have their “eggs and ham” study sheet if they’s like to begin preparing.
  • This week students shared their holiday raps that they wrote last week. There were some really great rhythms, rhymes and melodies!! We did a first listen to one of our holiday show songs that we will begin learning next week. We also went outside to complete our journal entry of “How does the world and sounds around us create their own music”.

Social Studies w/Mr. Jividen – 

  • This week students explored the functions of the United States Government
  • Three branches of government
  • Federal, State, and Local Government

Art w/ Mr. K – 

  • Our 7th and 8th graders are getting creative in art class with 3D cardboard sculptures! Each student chose their own subject, and they’re learning to think in layers and multiple dimensions as they build. The projects are looking awesome so far!

SEL w/ Mrs. McFadden – 

  • This week, we had a blast playing games to help students learn about building relationships and working together as a team. Through interactive and engaging group activities, students had the opportunity to get to know new peers in their class and work on relationship-building skills. Ask your student who they’ve met recently.

Elective –

  • Creation Lab w/ Mrs. Boldrick & Mrs. Ochap – Students are measuring and cutting for their projects. Some took on the 2×4 Challenge, and some are making a miniature classroom out of various recycled materials.
  • Cooking w/ Mrs. McFadden – Cooking w/ Mrs. McFadden – This week we continued to explore recipes of Central America. We tried canoas (plantains fried and stuffed to look like canoes) and plantain empanadas. Plantain week was met with mediocre reviews.
