6th

English w/ Mrs. McFadden – 

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes- DD set 2 quiz Friday
  • We will begin reading Walk Two Moons this week. If your child still has a copy at home, please have them bring it.
  • We are finishing up our unit study of text structures. Understanding how nonfiction texts are organized helps the reader focus their attention, anticipate what is to come, and monitor their comprehension.

Math w/ Mrs. McFadden – 

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes – Progress check Wednesday 
  • This week we began chapter two, in which students continue to practice operations and expressions with a focus on multiplication.
  • We spend time estimating multiplication products, as well as reviewing the standard algorithm for multiplying decimals.
  • We played a “Price is Right” style game, and sadly, we went over budget. We will try again on Monday!

Science w/ Mrs. McKay – 

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes – news quiz with Science World magazine
  • This week, students completed a simulation to gain an understanding of watersheds.
  • Students read and discussed current news articles in the world of science.

Music w/Mrs. Chelsey – 

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes – 
  • This week, we started learning our first holiday piece, “Here Comes the Snow”! We also had a short quiz on some basic music notation. 
  • Our journal entry this week was responding to the piece “4’ 33’’” by John Cage. Ask your child about the piece and all the ways it can be interpreted and all the things it can mean.

Elective –

  • Creation Lab w/ Mrs. Boldrick & Mrs. Ochap – The students continue to work on their 2×4 challenge and their miniature classroom models. As the students complete their miniatures, we will move into their upcycle project.
  • Cooking w/ Mrs. McFadden – Apple week was a great success, while students planned their South American recipes for Monday.
