A Look at Our Week:
Hello Families,
What a joyful week we’ve had together in the classroom!
We kicked things off by celebrating International Dot Day, inspired by the lovely book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. The story reminded us that creativity begins with just one brave mark—and you never know where it might take you! After reading the story and dancing along to The Dot Song, the children dove into our dot-themed exploration centers with so much excitement and imagination. They painted vibrant patterns on coffee filters and cotton rounds using pipettes and liquid watercolor, they built and balanced with colorful wooden dots and pool noodle slices, they wove fabric through hanging dot hoops—strengthening fine motor skills while creating something beautiful, and they made dot collages using glue, dot cut-outs, and dot dobbers on large sheets of paper.
The classroom was alive with color, creativity, and joy. Some children floated between each activity, while others found a favorite and stayed—each approach perfectly perfect..
Alongside all the creative fun, we also focused on what it means to be safe and kind in our school community. We practiced butterfly breathing, gently moving our legs like wings as we talked about how delicate butterflies are—just like our feelings. Using a cotton ball and sandpaper, we explored how our words and actions can feel either soft and kind or rough and hurtful. The children then drew how they can be a gentle “cotton ball friend” and safe at school on colorful patchwork quilt squares—each one a sweet reflection of their growing friendships and awareness of others.
Khyryn “No going in the water or on boats without an adult.”
Romeo “Stay and then walk to the teachers when they open the doors and waiting to go in the creek with my dad.”
Cam “When I was building. I was on the soft rug.”
Luella “I’m on the floor playing with my friends and my teachers.”
Alex “By lining up.”
Theo “By not going in the creek.”
Robert “I was listening to the sky and fixing dump trucks.”
Sloane “By getting out of the tunnel from recess.”
Addy “Walking to the slide.”
Jazz “I can’t.”
Emma “At the fire drill I be quiet.”
Stone “I go in the classroom nicely.”
Tory “My daddy’s not here yet, and I’ll wait with teachers.”
Preston “ I say hello.”
Adler “I am polite.”
Sasha “ I line up safely.”
To finish the week, the children completed their September self-portraits! Over the past few weeks, they’ve carefully added eyes, noses, and hair—and this week, they strung their perfect smiles using pipe cleaners and colorful noodles. We can’t wait to display their beautiful work in our classroom soon!
Thank you, as always, for sharing your kind, creative, and thoughtful children with us. We feel so lucky to watch them grow—one colorful “dot” at a time. With warmth,
Meredith, Airry, and Claire
