ELA:

  • Students will wrap up Nouns next week! From common to proper, concrete and abstract to possessives, students have been growing in grammar.
  • In writing, students practiced crafting exciting and attention-grabbing leads for their memoirs. They are being challenged to use the “show, don’t tell” method as well. We love hearing their stories come to life!
  • Students have reorganized their classroom library through sorting by genre. Using six different genres and subgenres to do so! We wrap up this section of genre next week by exploring what makes a mystery.

Math:

  • We finished up with place-value by arranging large numbers in order. The students had a great time working together in groups
  • We are working with large numbers in addition with regrouping. The students are doing well with this concept.
  • Next week, we’ll start subtraction with regrouping.

Early American History:

  • Students researched the causes of the American Revolution through textbooks and picture books to answer the following questions:
    • What is one thing you learned?
    • What is one thing you already knew?
    • What is one question you have now?
  • Many of their questions revolved around the daily lives of those living in the colonies and at the start of the revolution.

Reminders:

  • Meadowcroft Field Trip, Monday, October 20 – The 4th and 3rd grade classes will take a trip to experience and learn at Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village. We are excited about this trip! The students will board an Ohio County School Bus at 8:50, and depart school by 9 AM. We will return to school by 2:00 PM. Students must bring a packed lunch and drink (all disposable).
  • Please make sure all of your child’s jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts, etc. are labeled with their name. As the temperature warms up in the afternoon, we find miscellaneous items left in the classroom and throughout the campus.
  • On Friday, October 3rd, students will be taking their first Knowledge Check. This is a summary of what they have learned so far across all subject areas. Their homework and classwork throughout the week will be directly correlated to their Knowledge Check. Reach out with questions!
