Students completed their first Knowledge Check this week. They took 10-15 minutes to look through the assessment and try on their own first. Then, they were allowed to use any tools (ELA notebooks, history notes, etc.) to check their work and help them. They did a fantastic job navigating their first big assessment in 4th Grade! And of course, the mints enhanced their focusing skills.

We will also be starting our first in-class novel study of “The Lemonade War.” The majority of this book will be read in class, as well as assignments. Homework for the novel study will be few and far between however, they will be receiving a reading calendar that we encourage you to check in with them to see where they are at in the story!

ELA:

  • Students worked hard to review their nouns! We will continue to review these as the year progresses but will be starting verbs on Tuesday!
  • To continue preparing for their memoirs, studens worked on “Show, Don’t Tell” this week! They were challenged to make sentences more descriptive and then craft their own using a prompt.
  • In reading, we are working on finding a “Good Fit Book” and increasing reading stamina. Check the pictures below to see where they were reading this week!

Math:

  • The students worked on using large numbers (up to the hundred million place) in addition problems. They continue to use the regrouping process (carrying) while adding in each place column.
  • They also started reading word problems and solving them using addition.
  • Next week we will continue with word problems and also move on to subtraction.

Early American History:

  • Students learned more about the causes of the American Revolution. They were shocked to learn about all the different taxes that the colonists had to pay! Especially, the stamp and sugar act
  • The students loved to learn about the Boston Tea Party. Before kicking off the American Revolution, we will be diving deeper into the Boston Tea Party.
