We loved meeting each of you and seeing the joy on our students’ faces as they spent the afternoon together. From creating ornaments to sharing family recipes and interviews, it was a day filled with laughter, love, and special memories. Thank you for making Special Persons Day such a wonderful success!
ELA:
- Students are now reviewing and learning about verbs. We have completed action verbs and will be moving on to vivid verbs to help make their writing more detailed.
- They are also working on completing their first memoir. We will display these in the classroom. They will then start working on a second one more independently and will type their final drafts online.
- Our novel study of The Lemonade Wars is off to a great start! We have finished the first two chapters together and will slowly work our way to independent reading as we move through the novel study. Students should have a reading calendar for this novel study in the back of their yellow folder.
Math:
- This week, we used addition and large numbers in the millions to solve word problems. The students solved each problem by setting up the numbers (lining up by place-value), using addition, and labeling their answer.
- Students have been working with graph paper to write their problems neatly and organized.
- Next week, we will move to subtraction problems. Some with borrowing and moving across zeros.
Early American History:
- Students watched the Boston Tea Party and the Intolerable Acts episodes of Liberty Kids and completed fill-in-the-blank worksheets to answer specific questions about the episodes.
- They enjoyed seeing what they had been studying come to life in a different way! It brought up great discussions about more of the physical aspects of that time period such as clothes, wigs, and even what buildings looked like.
Reminders:
- Meadowcroft Field Trip, Monday, October 20 – The 4th and 3rd grade classes will take a trip to experience and learn at Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village. We are excited about this trip! The students will board an Ohio County School Bus at 8:50, and depart school by 9 AM. We will return to school by 2:00 PM. Students must bring a packed lunch and drink (all disposable).
- Please make sure all of your child’s jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts, etc. are labeled with their name. As the temperature warms up in the afternoon, we find miscellaneous items left in the classroom and throughout the campus.
Special Person’s Day Pictures!
