On Monday, we will be heading to Meadowcroft for our field trip. The students will board an Ohio County School Bus at 8:50 and depart school by 9 AM. We will return to school by 2:00 PM. Students must bring a packed lunch and drink (all disposable). We will be walking a lot throughout the day, so please encourage your students to wear comfortable shoes.

ELA:

  • Students are finishing their first memoirs! They will be on display in the classroom. They will work more independently on their second memoirs, which will be a typed final draft. We are excited to watch their continued growth in writing!
  • Our novel study of The Lemonade War continues to run smoothly. We are so impressed at how well the students know their own learning styles (listening to, reading, reading in a comfy spot, rereading and working on questions, etc.) and are able to execute them. Be on the lookout for vocabulary words to come home to study in the next week or so!
  • After reviewing action verbs, we have transitioned into vivid verbs. Instead of writing the word “walk”, as 4th graders, they might write “paced” or “wandered.” They are also working on dictation sentences to practice their sentence structure and spelling in one. We are reviewing plural nouns through this, as well as other grade-level-appropriate spelling words.

Math:

  • Students are working on subtraction with and without regrouping.
  • They worked on a math packet that will stay in their yellow folder. This is independent work that is self-checking.
  • Next week, they will continue with subtraction. All of the problems will require regrouping (borrowing), and students will have to move across one or two places to borrow.

Early American History:

  • Students took time this week to review key aspects of early American history through videos, discussions, and a word search that contained various important vocabulary terms.
  • Next week, when we head to Meadowcroft, we hope to see some of what we have researched and discussed in class come to life!

Reminders:

  • Meadowcroft Field Trip, Monday, October 20 – The 4th and 3rd grade classes will take a trip to experience and learn at Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village. We are excited about this trip! The students will board an Ohio County School Bus at 8:50 and depart school by 9 AM. We will return to school by 2:00 PM. Students must bring a packed lunch and drink (all disposable).
  • Please make sure all of your child’s jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts, etc. are labeled with their name. As the temperature warms up in the afternoon, we find miscellaneous items left in the classroom and throughout the campus.
