Upcoming Tests/Quizzes- WTM vocab test Friday
On Friday, we had our monthly visit from Mr. B, the children’s outreach librarian from the OCPL. He read a picture book called The Creepy Crayon, along with reader’s theater scripts for the kids to reenact the story. It’s a always a fun mix-up when Mr. B comes!
We began writing a fable based on one of the messages from Walk Two Moons. The messages are so perfectly applicable to anyone’s life. They are lessons in life, and make the perfect moral ending to a fable. The fables are due Wednesday, and I look forward to reading them. This is an outstanding group of writers!
We are coming to the end of WTM, and just finished reading some surprising plot twists. We’ve had some great discussions on what is motivating the characters to act the way they do. The kids also enjoyed going on a question trail this week. Each right answer led you to the next question and in order to complete the trail, you had to anser in the correct sequence.

Upcoming Tests/Quizzes -Ch 3 progress check Thursday
We spent the week solidifying the algorithm for long division. We went from a wobbly understanding to a solid one! Now we will be bumping it up a level by adding decimals to the dividend, and then to the divisor.
We played a great bump game to get the kids used to estimating to find compatible numbers to get that first number in the quotient. Number sense and a solid foundation of multiplication and division facts are so helpful for long division. We have been warming up every day with mental math division problems to help strengthen these skills.

Music w/Mrs. Chelsey –
Upcoming Tests/Quizzes –
This week we started learning “The Chipmunks Song” in our best chipmunk voices!!
Our music journal entry was “Please respond to the piece ‘The Rite Of Spring’ by Igor Stravinsky.” It was a very controversial piece when it premiered in Paris in 1913 – ask your kids why!

Social Studies w/ Mr. Jividen –
Students completed their first quiz on rights, responsibilities, and duties and the Bill of Rights
We will start a new unit next week.

SEL w/Mrs. Ochap –
This week we addressed the need for a lesson on perspective taking. We watched a video of “The Six Blind Men and the Elephant” in which each man touches a different part of the elephant and gets a totally different idea of what an elephant must look like. They argue that each one is right, until the wise man teaches them that we all have different perspectives based on our background experiences. They were all partly correct, but they needed to “see” each others’ perspectives as well to get the most accurate picture. Then we had an ink blot gallery walk in which everyone wrote down what they saw in each inkblot. It was fun to see what everyone else saw, and eye opening to realize that someone else’s perspective was most likely different, and quite possibly even more interesting, than our own.
