What a nonstop, action-packed, fun week itβs been! We may be deep into October, but the excitement and creativity in our classroom are in full bloom. Between wrapping up big projects and adding festive fun, the students have truly shown how much theyβve grown both academically and artistically. Adding our mark to the ribbon for the grand opening of our mural was a created all the core memories we needed to get us through the weekend. Here are this weekβs highlights:
π Phonics: This week we focused on the /ai/ sound as in paid, wait, and mail. Students practiced spelling, reading, and identifying this vowel team through games, word sorts, and hands-on activities. Itβs been wonderful watching them apply what they know when decoding and writing new words!
β Math: We began two-digit regrouping and even explored some three-digit challenges! This is a big new skill, and the students are working so hard to remember to βcarry overβ correctly and continue to start in the ones place. Their excitement when they see it all click is contagious. We are so proud of their persistence and problem-solving!
βοΈ Writing: Our fiction stories are coming to a close, and what a journey itβs been! The studentsβ creativity has truly shined through their characters and plots. In the meantime, their free writing has also taken off! Itβs incredible to see how eager they are to write independently and share their stories with one another.
π Grammar: This week we explored regular and irregular plural nouns. From cats and princesses to mice and children, our learners had a blast sorting and using these words in silly sentences. Theyβre becoming grammar pros one plural noun at a time!
𦴠Deep Dive: We officially finished our animal projects! Students created their own animal, either independently or with a partner, inspired by their favorite category we’ve explored this deep dive. We had an animal from every category: mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and fish took over! The creativity and thoughtfulness they put into researching, describing, and presenting their creatures was absolutely amazing. We couldnβt be prouder of the final products!
π Extra Fun: Our classroom pumpkin for Vantoberfest is complete and itβs a… masterpiece! The kiddos worked together beautifully to bring their vision to life, and it turned out better than we could have imagined. Be sure to bid online or come to Vantoberfest tonight to try and make the Van-tastic Van-tasy yours! https://app.betterunite.com/WheelingCountryDaySchool-vantoberfest/Offers?silentauction=1
