On Friday, we will be walking through the 5th Grade’s annual Haunted House as well as having the traditional costume parade around the loop. Please join us at 9:00am to see the creative costumes at our school! During our time in the classroom, we will have a relaxed day, with festive work and a movie. It would be much appreciated if we could have 3 families donate one healthy snack, drink, and sweet treat. We have 24 students in our class this year, and we will send out a message when all slots are filled. We appreciate your willingness to support our classroom!
ELA:
- Students continue with their novel study of The Lemonade War. Their reading calendar has been updated to reflect where we are currently in their novel study. They tried their hands at summarizing as well, using the (Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then) formula. They did very well for their first time trying it!
- Week 2 of practicing dictation sentences is already showing in their writing! These skills are also being reinforced on Quill.com as students must rewrite sentences correctly before they are allowed to move on to the next question.
- We are enhancing our vocabulary by learning how to navigate both an online dictionary and a thesaurus this week!
Math:
- Students are working on a Halloween math project. They are reviewing old skills, such as place value, and applying new skills in addition and subtraction.
- We are pacing the students to better understand time management and organization. Projects like this help students with their math skills, and just as important, improve their executive functioning skills.
- We are beginning to use regrouping skills across multiple places in a number. The students are learning to “tell a story” as they borrow from each place.
Early American History:
- We finished our deep dive into early American history with a trip to Meadowcroft! Students were able to not only show off their knowledge from this year but also what they learned during their Native American deep dive last year. They even impressed our presenters!
- Students enjoyed the field trip, especially all of the hands-on learning they were able to do. Thank you for your continued support of these learning experiences for our students.
Digital Discovery:
- Students continue to work on placing (and keeping) their hands properly positioned on the homerow keys.
- They have also ventured into the top row and are enjoying the challenge it is bringing!
Character Education:
- This week brought I-Statements to 4th Grade.
Reminders:
- Please make sure all of your child’s jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts, etc. are labeled with their name. As the temperature warms up in the afternoon, we find miscellaneous items left in the classroom and throughout the campus.
- With the cold weather quickly making its debut this week, please help your child to dress appropriately! We try to get them outside as long as it’s not raining or extremely cold to have some fresh air. We will also do our best to make sure the extra gloves, hats, jackets, etc. make their way home.
