  • Friday, December 19 – Half Day – Winter Break!

We are less than a month away from the Holiday Show! We are so excited to welcome you all to our main campus gym on Wednesday evening, December 17th. After the Thanksgiving Break, we will have practice after school from 3:30-4:30 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, December 1st, 3rd, 8th, 10th, and 15th.  Please also discuss with your child what their costume should be for the show. They can piece together anything from home, and there is no need to buy anything new, but all have a style they should try to adhere to.

Students are at the point in the year where they have saved enough class money to buy rewards within our classroom. Just to confirm for you, yes, kids are able to purchase a one-day pass to bring a piece of technology, a show-and-tell item, a blanket, a stuffed animal, or a pajama day. They are also able to bring in a pet for show and tell, as you can see in some of our photos from the week. We simply ask that you schedule the pet visits in advance, but they should be honest about their requests to bring an item from home, assuming you also allow them.

Language Arts:

  • Finished our Andrew Clements books and beginning our group slideshows to present next week
  • Students are putting finishing touches on their thank you cards they are to deliver this weekend

Math:

  • Practiced dividing decimals and money with one-digit divisors
  • Continued our lessons on division, but now we’re dividing with two-digit divisors
  • Math centers for some hands-on practice with division games
  • We will take a small quiz on Monday on division

Social Studies/Oregon Trail:

  • This week, students continued their journey along the Oregon Trail and dug deeper into what life was really like for pioneers heading west. Through firsthand readings and written summaries, they explored the challenges families faced on the trail. They also played a game that forced them to make tough choices, such as which items might be lost from their wagon, as unexpected events unfolded (they missed throwing a ball into a basket). Many groups have already experienced a few “casualties,” which has led to thoughtful conversations about the hardships of the time period. It’s been an exciting and immersive experience.
  • Have you bought any rewards from the class bank or are you saving your money for something?
  • What role are you playing in your family in the Oregon Trail?
  • How do you know if the number 216 is divisible by 3?
  • Is your group going to be able to talk for three minutes during your presentation on your book?
  • What costume items do you need for the holiday show?
