A Look at Our Week:

This week, our preschoolers have been busy exploring the themes of gratitude, creativity, and imagination as we gear up for Thanksgiving. We shared the book Gracias, the Thanksgiving Turkey, where a boy named Miguel is gifted a live turkey to fatten up for his family’s feast. But as Miguel and Gracias become friends, their bond grows too strong to break—so Gracias finds a new home at a petting zoo, and Miguel’s family enjoys chicken instead! The children loved this heartwarming story, and it inspired our November self-portraits. We asked the class to imagine that they were turkeys. What clever way would they hide or disguise themselves so they wouldn’t become Thanksgiving dinner? Their imaginations soared, and each child dreamed up a creative way to stay safe. Then they brought their ideas to life by drawing themselves as turkeys—full of color, personality, and wonderful storytelling using oil pastels and watercolors.

Roman- I would make myself disguised as a person.

Preston- (I would go to) the moon.

Khy- I would hide on the moon.

Tory- I would hide as a snowman.

Emma- I would hide in the woods like a deer.

Romeo- I would go hide behind a tree.

Theo- How do you make a turkey?

Cam- I would pretend to be a car.

Jazzy- I would dress up as Bluey.

Addie- I would dress up as a dinosaur and chase Daddy.

Sloane- I go somewhere else and hide at school. In there (pointing to a closet).

Luella- I would wear a disguise. See that purple mask and purple disguise? I would hide in the closet, too.

Stone- I would go to the fair. That’s my mom. I would go to the bathroom or I’d dress up as a bear, but I’d still look kind of like a turkey. So, a turkey bear.

Adler- I would have this rock so they couldn’t catch me.

Skye- I would go to the playground.

Alex- I would hide in there (pointing to Mr. Joe’s office).

Robert- I would just go home. They wouldn’t eat me there.

Sasha- I would hide in the ocean.

Odessa- I would hide behind a couch.

The children explored a special art provocation this week. They were invited into our art space, where large tapestries hung at preschool height, suspended from the ceiling. With spray bottles, squeegees, and paintbrushes in hand, they let their imaginations lead the way, layering beautiful fall colors across the hanging canvases. Patterns emerged, and the room filled with excited giggles that were truly contagious. Their artistic energy didn’t stop there; they even chose to add a colorful flair to our little wooden table tops, which, after reflection, look even better with their creative touch! This provocation was an absolute hit.

We wrapped up our week by sharing another The Thankful Jar story, ā€œIt’s a special jar that reminds us of the good things in our lives.ā€ After reflecting together on the little things in our day-to-day life that we are thankful for, the children created a small Thanksgiving gift to share with their families and maybe even add more ā€œthankfulsā€ to the jar.

Warmly,

  • Meredith, Claire, and Airry
