Hello SK Families!

This past week gifted us a string of snowy days, a rare winter pause that invited us to slow our pace and settle into a gentler rhythm. Winter has a way of reminding us that sometimes calm, stillness, and togetherness are exactly what our bodies and hearts need. We hope you were able to welcome that quiet, to bask in the beauty of the slowdown, and to savor being alongside your children, perhaps even being a child again yourselves.

After a short week away from one another, we returned rearing and ready to go, eager to learn and share. To ground ourselves back together, we read The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. The children immediately connected Peter’s snowy adventures to their own experiences, walking through fresh snow, listening to the quiet it brings, and noticing how it feels, looks, and sounds.

Inspired, the children reflected on their own snow days through a writing prompt titled My Snowy Day. They drew detailed pictures and bravely sounded out words to capture their experiences, describing the snow’s sparkle, its cold touch, and of course, lots and lots of sledding. Their stories were full of joy, movement, and memory.

Our Daily Discovery and Explorations buzzed with winter wonder. Snowy skies emerged at the art table, Magnetiles transformed into icy landscapes filled with winter hues, and bins of fake snow were a huge hit. The children eagerly shared stories of their days apart, reconnecting through play, conversation, and collaboration.

In phonics, learning picked right back up:

  • Miss Hanna’s group worked on sentence sequencing, carefully putting words in order to create meaningful sentences, while continuing to strengthen their work with blends.
  • In Miss Arden’s group, we reviewed qu, short vowels, and our red word “the.”
  • Miss Loris’s group focused on reviewing the letters W and V.

In math, we jumped back into our beloved Rainbow Math. One side of the rainbow showed numbers 5–10, while the other side was blank. The children searched for the pairs that make ten and then created their own equations to match. Their confidence is truly taking off. As Wendell so perfectly put it, “I’m so sorry, I went ahead, I just got so excited!” We absolutely love these little math wizards.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend and that those little hands keep you warm with plenty of snuggles.
