  • Tuesday, February 10 – No School
  • Friday, February 13 – Valentine’s Day Celebration

  • March 2 – 6 – No School – Spring Break

Several of our WCDS families will be traveling to Chile with FC Wheeling Soccer over spring break, including Miss Meredith and Mrs. Fuentes, and will have the opportunity to visit a local school while they are there. As our students are learning Spanish as a foreign language, we are excited about the chance to support children in Chile who are learning English.

If you have any bilingual English/Spanish children’s books at home that you would be willing to donate, they will be shared with the school as a way to support their English language learning. The Dolly Parton Imagination Library books are often bilingual and are a wonderful option to donate! Thank you for helping us share language, learning, and kindness beyond our classroom.

Language Arts:

  • Began an exploration of the 1960’s and the Civil Rights Movement as we enter Black History Month and a new novel study
  • Started our class novel “One Crazy Summer”, so look for nightly reading in February!
  • Students began their outline of a five paragraph essay in preparation for their upcoming research essay
  • Continuing to discuss finding authentic sources versus AI summaries. We continue to emphasize that AI isn’t a source and using someone else’s words is plagiarism
  • Enjoyed a visit from the Ohio County Public Library!

Math:

  •  Continuing on with our fraction unit
  • Learning to add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators
  • Practiced simplifying fractions

Robotics:

  • Practiced writing codes on changing direction, sensing color, and measuring distance
  • Created a new build for our robots and added a claw
  • Teams are being challenged with asking less questions, problem solving more, and focusing on their own team and offering less help in preparation for the competition and challenges at the end of the month

We enjoyed getting to know Ethan’s cat, Ophelia, who came in for Pet Show and Tell, which Ethan bought via the Class Bank!

  • What do you think about the relationship between Cecile and her children in “One Crazy Summer” so far?
  • Did you finish your outline for your research paper?
  • Were you and your partner able to complete all of the coding activities before building your clawbot?
  • What is a common multiple of 8 and 6?
  • What grade did you earn on your Morning Work book for January?
