ELA: Bunnicula has quickly become a class favorite! The suspense has caught students attention and keeps them engaged in the book looking for clues as to whether or not Bunnicula is a vampire. We are still monitoring their comprehension through two methods. The first is a quick sheet where they answe multiple choice, short answer, and matching questions. In doing this, we are preparing them for 5th and beyond. Then they are also creating a “one pager” where they must choose a symbol, quote, or summary of the book to create a more artistic piece. In writing, we have concluded plot mountain stories. Please be on the lookout for those to come home with a graded rubric.

Math: Students began to understand division. They learned about dividends, divisors, and quotients. We started practicing division facts, and they understand that division facts are the reverse of multiplication. As we did with multiplication facts, we ask that they practice division facts for at least 10-minutes a day.

Digital Discovery: Students continued to work on their research and typing skills.

Character Ed: With no school on Monday, there was not a formal class for Character Education. However, with February being Random Acts of Kindness month, we have started each morning disucssing a quote involving kindness. Students are learning that kindness costs nothing of us but can mean everything to someone else!

Deep Dive: Government with Mrs. White: Students continued with their research of their Presidents and started their slideshow presentations. Before their formal presentations next week, we encouraged them to practice at home in front on an audience. That could be family, friends, or even their favorite stuffed animals! We are looking forward to watching them grow through this project as they are challenged in new but familiar ways.

A note from Mrs. Fuentes and Mrs. Shah: Several of our WCDS families will be traveling to Chile with FC Wheeling Soccer over spring break, including Miss Meredith and Mrs Fuentes, and will have the opportunity to visit a local school while they are there. As our students are learning Spanish as a foreign language, we are excited about the chance to support children in Chile who are learning English.

If you have any bilingual English/Spanish children’s books at home that you would be willing to donate, they will be shared with the school as a way to support their English language learning. The Dolly Parton Imagination Library books are often bilingual and are a wonderful option to donate!

Thank you for helping us share language, learning, and kindness beyond our classroom.

Muchas gracias!

A few reminders:

  • Students should make charging their computer part of their daily homework routine when they get home. This is part of their responsibility to come to school prepared.
