On Friday, the class enjoyed a Valentine’s Day card exchange. Thank you to everyone for supporting your child’s creativity by helping create their boxes and helping provide the cards and treats for the rest of the class!
On Tuesday, Alex, Alyas, and Vinny represented the 5th grade at Ohio County Math Field Day at Wheeling Park High School! They completed high-level math problems, an estimation room, and a mental math test. Well done, boys!
Weekly Recap:
Language Arts:
- Putting finishing touches on our research outlines and beginning to draft our essays on Google Docs
- Students should be preparing their creative choice project that aligns with their research topic, which will be due on Friday, February 20
- Continuing with our novel study on “One Crazy Summer” and learning about the Civil Rights Movement
Math:
- Learning how to add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers
- Continuing to take detailed notes in our math notebook
- Encourage your child to bring home their notebook at any time if and when they need help with their homework
- Reminder that students are to complete 30 minutes of online math work on a site called Happy Numbers every week. It is due each Friday.
Robotics:
- Created a new build on our robots by creating a claw and writing code to operate it
- Practiced various maneuvers and challenges on the table to prepare for the upcoming competition
- The robotics competition will be on Thursday, February 26.
Special’s News:
- Started a new cup stacking unit in PE to master hand-eye coordination
- Began studying Shakespeare in Drama by learning who he was and discovering some of the words he invented that we still use today
- Finalizing the music they created on BeepBox.com that aligns with the specific genre they’ve been studying
- Preparing for an upcoming Spanish quiz on adjectives
