This week in 2nd grade we have been busy learning, creating, and having fun while enjoying the beautiful weather that surprised us! π
In phonics, we learned all about the vowel team βoeβ and practiced reading and spelling words that include this sound. We also spent time doing some independent reading and answering comprehension questions. In small groups, we read the story Two Bad Ants and explored what the world looks like from an antβs point of view. Students had great discussions comparing what the ants thought they were seeing to what was actually happening!
In math, we continued practicing regrouping during our quick math warm-up each day. We also had a ton of fun learning how to read and create different kinds of graphs including line plots, pictographs, and bar graphs. Students enjoyed collecting data and turning it into their very own graphs!
In writing, we have been working on writing letters to one another and we are getting pretty good at it! Miss Tylar should be getting a fun surprise when she checks her mailbox soon! Students have also been busy writing thoughtful letters to the people who are closest to them.
We wrapped up our weather deep dive this week with a few more extreme weather presentations. Our next deep dive will focus on what makes a good leader. We will begin learning about the executive branch of government and the responsibilities of our president, governors, and mayors.
In Kids in the Kitchen, we made a tasty cucumber dip this week! π₯ We hope you give it a try at home over the weekend.
Have a wonderful weekend!
