Dear Preschool Families,

It is amazing what a little sunshine can do for the soul! With the break in the weather, we spent as much time outside as we could. The students were more than happy to put on their rain boots and head to the big playground. The sunshine felt so nice as we ran around, swung on the swings, and marveled at the first sounds of Spring. What snow and ice was left became ingredients for soups and potions, while a big mound outside of our classroom became a mining site. It was so refreshing to feel the sun on our faces, to hear the giggles of the kiddos, and to play in the mud!

As the sun was shining, our shadows started dancing. It was fun to see them in action outside as our explorations continued. As the students noticed how big or small they got, we were inspired to used shadows for our February self-portraits. The students first posed their bodies behind our white curtain, making interesting shadows. When shown the printed pictures, they took on the challenge of trying to guess who was who. What expert little guessers we have because they got most of them correct. The students then drew themselves using white crayons and oil pastels on black paper, trying to model their different body shapes. Wait until you see the results!

When we weren’t playing outside, we continued spreading the love by finishing up our heart canvases. We read the story Love Makes a Family by Sophie Beer, which helped us see that even the littlest actions and moments are full of love. The students were invited to draw something or someone that they love, using a thin, black Sharpie on white paper. We had everything from families, playing with siblings, special activities, and even cheese. Their drawings were attached to the back of the canvases to create a one-of-a-kind piece of art. We hope you enjoy them!

We hope you have a great weekend and see you on Monday!
