7th Grade News

English w/ Mr. Rouse – 

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes- none.
  • We are nearing the end of Howl’s Moving Castle. Please see details next week for the next book I choose.
  • We spent the week workshopping theme and intro paragraphs/thesis statements in preparation for the essay due next week. One of the activities was watching different theme videos and seeing if the students could identify a theme on their own.
  • We spent a lot of in class time reading the book as I wanted to make sure it was done before we worked too much on the essays.

Math w/ Mrs. Bishop

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes- Test next Friday (add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers in scientific notation)
  • The class began adding and subtracting numbers in scientific notation. It’s quite a process but they are handling it well. We’ll continue practicing with this in class on Monday. 
  • We’re moving to multiplying and dividing numbers in scientific notation on Tuesday. 

Math w/ Mrs. Boldrick

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes- None Scheduled
  • The students finished up their unit with Conrad Borchers of Carnegie Mellon University. With the help of our math class, Conrad will finish his online tutoring project that he is developing to gain his PhD. The students enjoyed working with Conrad and his team.
  • The students also finished the unit on inequalities. Instead of a test, the students were required to finish multiple pages in their workbook. We finished the work and checked answers on Friday.
  • Next week, we will start a new trimester with polynomials. The students have already been exposed to this concept, but we’ll do a deeper dive into the skills.

Music w/Mrs. Chelsey – 

  • Upcoming Tests/Quizzes – 
  • This week students presented their classical piece body percussion routines, and shared their ten facts about their composer. There were a lot of great rhythms created!!!
  • We filmed our Mozart “Rondo Alla Turca” body percussion routine and will be sharing it soon!!
  • Our journal today was a response to the piece “Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin.

SEL w/ Mrs. McFadden – 

  • This week’s focus was on not “yucking someone’s yum”. We talked about how just because you don’t like the same things as other people, doesn’t mean you have to rain on their parade. We talked about how if someone wears something you would never wear, or listens to music you would never listen to, you should just “let them”. We also talked about the importance of telling someone if they hurt your feelings this way. Many times friends are just teasing, and they may not realize that they have hurt you.
